I applied through BrowserStack's careers site and got a call from HR to schedule. I was preparing for an SDE-2 backend role but got a call for SDE-1 instead. Round 1 was an intro round, Round 2 was on LLD basics.

Round Experience
I was asked: What is a Distributed System? CAP Theorem? Horizontal vs Vertical Scaling? Load Balancing and L4 vs L7 practically? My tips: go through distributed-systems basics, CAP theorem, and how load balancers work internally.

Problem: An LLD round
I had to write working code for a Circuit Breaker (CLOSED/OPEN/HALF-OPEN states, failure tracking, success handling, timeout-as-failure). My tips: think in terms of a state machine first, always address concurrency and edge cases.
Round Experience
My selection perspective: I was rejected because I couldn't explain Kafka's internal working in a distributed system during a practical problem.
Round 2 — My Takeaways
- DSA thoroughly, aptitude/puzzles, two good explained projects, arrays/binary search/DP/recursion, common HR questions.
